Holistic living is so much more than simply practicing herbs or doing meditation. It is a guideline for living a fulfilling life.
I am here to empower you to live your life to the fullest. The tools will be given to you. They are to teach you how to thrive with holistic living.
For the past 2 weeks, I have been introducing the concept of meditation. Everyone benefits from meditation. Whether you are first starting out with a 5-Minute Meditation or learning about some of the more accessible Types of Meditation to practice.
Meditation is not the sole purpose of this blog. I introduced it first because it is a great foundation to build on. Also, to give you a taste of epic magic that you did not know existed!
Already you have started with learning and practicing meditation. Speaking of that, how are you fairing with your meditating? It’s okay, to be honest with yourself. Take a few moments, sit back and observe your thoughts on how you feel about it.
Do not feel bad if you have not practiced it as much as you would like. Getting started and the effort you have put into it is okay. It is a great start. Continue to build on it.
This article introduces the purpose of this blog and how it pertains to holistic living.
What Does Holistic Living Entail?
Holistic living is recognizing that multiple characteristics make up the entirety of you. Each piece of you consists of your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Let’s call these ‘facets’ of our being.
The medical world primarily focuses on our physical well-being. It has been more accepting of looking into our mental well-being. Which is great!
However, there is still a disconnect within the medical community. Our physical and mental well-being is still looked at as just separate entities. Tell me, has your doctor ever asked you how you are doing mentally or emotionally?
Although I would love to hear the answer yes, it will frequently be no. Holistic living is all about looking at ourselves as a whole. All 5 of those characteristics that make up ourselves are taken into account.
For instance, how we are doing emotionally can impact how we are doing mentally or physically. Another example is that lack of social contact can make us anxious or discouraged. Everything is connected, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.
Holistic living is recognizing that every facet of you works together. One part cannot simply be focused upon to achieve blissful stability.
Story Time
My patients used to be so surprised when I would take the time to learn about them. If a patient admitted to me that they were not following their medication regimen, I took the extra time to ask questions to figure out what was wrong with them.
It took courage for them to admit when they weren’t taking their medication correctly to me. I wanted to reward them for being comfortable enough to confide in me. So, I dug deeper to understand what the underlying issue was.
Some of the issues I found were that they just didn’t understand how intense the medication regimen was. They were too afraid to ask their doctor. Other times I found that they were going through personal things. Their private life was impacting their ability to remember.
One time I sat with an elderly patient while we called a company to install proper railings on his front porch stairs. He was distraught that he could not find anyone to help him with this process. This may seem odd to some people for me to do, but it made a world of difference to him. He became one of my best patients.
Another facet of their being had impacted their physical well-being. The patient was stressed or unhappy about some issues going on. Therefore, together we searched for solutions.
Empower Yourself: Set Your Holistic Living Intention
Set purposeful intentions for yourself moving forward. Maybe this article caused some reflection or thoughts to cross your mind. Self-reflect on some values that you would like to impact.
Understand that holistic living will not happen overnight. It is a process. Setting intentions will help to keep you on track. Constantly remind yourself of your intentions for motivation.
Notice how I said intention and not goals. This is not a race. Changing habits and behavior take time. It is crucial to be conscious of your reasons for making a change.
Let’s take a look at an example: Your intention is to understand your triggers and how to reduce their effects.
That intention is what is going to drive you. It is a change you strive to see. This intention should start to become ingrained in your daily life. Be mindful that it won’t happen overnight. It occurs through repetition.
Take your time and be kind to yourself. Know that this is a process. The fact that you are reading this article shows just how much you crave to better yourself. Be proud of that! I may not personally know you, but I am proud of you.
This path is not easy. There will be moments where you will be resistant and fear the changes. Remind yourself of your intention. That will help get you through those challenging moments.
Continuing Our Journey
Understand holistic living is not to replace any medical professionals you currently see. Medical professionals as your primary care doctor (PCP), therapist, psychologist, or any other specialized doctor. It is meant to be used in conjunction with their professional advice.
You need them. They are the ones that will be able to monitor you effectively. If, throughout your journey, you would like to try something alternative to medicine or another holistic practice, make sure they are made aware.
Open communication is essential! Your medical professional is there for you, so use them. They may not be able to recommend certain things due to their restrictions. That is okay. At least they can be on the lookout if anything changes.
Thriving Thursdays will be days that I will post uplifting articles and crafty treats to keep you on your toes. As part of creating a community, a discussion board will be made accessible in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or thoughts or want to say hi, stop by! I would love to hear from you.
Meditation will continue to be our primary focal point for a few more weeks. Then, I will branch into other categories around holistic living, such as holistic health, crystals, and energy.
These are my greatest treasures, Rita’s Treasures.
